The Apollo missions are heralded as the greatest achievement in human history. You’d be hard pressed to find something even remotely close to the grandeur of going to the moon and back. These weren’t some black-op missions, who’s story was told after the fact. The Apollo missions were broadcasted live across the globe, and watched by hundreds of millions of people. Among the millions of people that watched in awe, were those inspired to investigate the missions through a microscope. Of those inspired investigators came the “father” of the moon landing hoax, Bill Kaysing. Bill’s controversial book “We Never Went To The Moon” started a generation of sleuths determined to get to the bottom of the question, did we actually go. The Moon landings have now become a hotly contested topic. Those who were around to actually witness them live on television, tend to swear that mankind did indeed step foot on the moon. Then there are those like Massimo Mazzucco, who find the missions…sketchy, to say the least. In Massimo’s 3-1/2 hour documentary “American Moon” he goes to great lengths scrutinizing every aspect of the Apollo missions.
The moon hoax theory is that NASA, who was running out of time to deliver on the country’s promise of sending man to the moon, decided to fake the moon landings by recreating them in a studio. American Moon, at least to my knowledge, is the most compelling, and comprehensive “moon landing hoax” documentary out there.
The film goes into great detail explaining the background and context in which the Apollo space program was conceived. It closely follows the timeline of the program, making it startlingly apparent that with all the setbacks and failures leading up to Apollo 11, they had run out of time and needed to implement a “Plan B”. That plan was to film a fake moon landing and broadcast it to the world. Mazzucco shows how they had all the necessary knowledge and equipment to accurately recreate the lunar surface landing, but obviously not accurately enough.
When going through the video archives of the lunar landings, there are strange anomalies that are constantly being pointed out. Mazzucco goes as far as showing expert photographers the “official” photo library of the moon landings and asking if they could have possibly been made using natural light from the sun. In each instance the photographer (without knowing that the photos were direct copies from NASA) denounced the possibility that the photos were taken using sunlight. They actually showed and explained techniques involved that prove the photos were taken indoors using artificial lighting.
One of, if not the most damning pieces evidence against the moon landings are the Van Allen Belts. The Van Allen Belts are a series of highly radioactive rings that encircle the earth. Apart from the Apollo missions, there has not been an instance where humans ventured anywhere close to these belts. According today to NASA engineer Kelly Smith, the Van Allen Belts pose a challenge to unmanned space probes, and “we must solve these challenges before we send people through this region of space”. Up until 1968 the Van Allen Belts were considered highly dangerous. From 1969-72 the radiation became harmless, and ever since they’ve become dangerous again. So if we hypothetically had technology to shield astronauts from these radioactive belts in the late 60’s…where is it? Officially… NASA lost it. Those who developed it don’t remember. It’s gone.
The film doesn’t shy away from hoax debunkers either. Rather it delves into their arguments made in favor of the moon landings, and systematically picks apart their claims. Most notably is the debunker Paolo Attivissimo who’s power point lectures on why we actually went to the moon, is countered point by point. Even pro-moon landing “experiments” made by the hosts of the famous tv show MythBusters, are criticized for their lack of scientific conclusiveness.
I’d like to think we actually went to the moon. Who wouldn’t? But the fact is there's more and more evidence piling up by the year on why we couldn’t have gone.
If you put a gun to my head and told me to correctly choose whether or not we landed on the moon…I would have probably said that we did. But after watching American Moon, I’d reconsider. There are other stories and explanations out there on this subject, but for anyone interested, and looking for a quality film, I’d recommend American Moon.
You can find the link to American Moon on my newsletter’s homepage under “Useful Info”. The movie is on YouTube, but doesn’t appear in any search results. Strange.
